Excel spreadsheet to IRIS CSV

Keep your contractor list in Excel or Google Sheets the way you like it. Drop the .xlsx or a CSV export below and the tool maps it to the IRIS template, fixes the formats and writes upload-ready files.

Your file never leaves this computer. Checking, fixing and splitting run in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, so SSNs and EINs stay with you. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works for CSV and FIRE files.
No sign-up. Free to check, fix and download.
Combine two reports (QuickBooks contact list + 1099 totals)

QuickBooks Online has no single report with names, tax IDs, addresses and 1099 totals. Export the Vendor Contact List (with Tax ID and address columns) and the 1099 Contractor Summary, drop one above and the other here. Rows are joined by vendor name.

Match the exact header of your IRS template (recommended)

IRIS checks the header row word for word, and the IRS can change it each tax year. In the portal, open Upload CSV with Form Data, download the blank template for your form and tax year, and drop it here. The tool then writes your files under that exact header. It remembers the header row, never your data.

Why not just paste into the IRS template?

Pasting into the template works for a few rows. With more, Excel gets in the way:

The tool reads the .xlsx file directly. It puts back the leading zeros that Excel dropped and flags each one for you to check. It writes plain-text CSV files that Excel never touches.

Columns your sheet needs

InformationColumn names the tool recognizes
NameName, Vendor, Payee, Contractor, or First Name and Last Name, or Company
Tax IDTIN, Tax ID, SSN, EIN, SSN/EIN
AddressAddress or Street, Address 2, City, State, ZIP
AmountAmount, Total, Total Paid, Nonemployee Compensation, Box 1
OptionalAccount Number, Federal Tax Withheld, State, State Tax Withheld

Any column with another name can be matched by hand from a list. Your own payer details go in a short form once and are remembered in your browser.

Google Sheets

Use File, Download, then Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) or Comma-separated values (.csv), and drop the file into the tool. Only the first sheet is read.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool change my spreadsheet?
No. It reads a copy in your browser and writes new CSV files. Your original stays as it was.
My sheet has several tabs. Which one is read?
The first tab. Move the contractor list to the first tab, or download that tab alone as a CSV.
Can I use one sheet for 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC?
Yes. Run it once with the form set to 1099-NEC and once with 1099-MISC, matching the right amount columns each time. IRIS needs a separate file for each form.
