About IRIS CSV Tool
IRIS CSV Tool helps small businesses, bookkeepers and accountants file Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC through the free IRS IRIS Taxpayer Portal. It turns accounting exports and old FIRE files into CSV files that pass the portal's checks.
How it works
The whole tool is JavaScript that runs in your browser. When you choose a file, the browser reads it into memory, the checks run on your computer, and the results download straight from the page. The site has no server code that receives files, and its security policy blocks every outside connection except the cookieless Cloudflare page-view counter.
Where the rules come from
- IRS Template Formatting Guidelines for each form (TY2025 package, updated January 14, 2026)
- IRS Publication 5717, IRIS Taxpayer Portal User Guide (Rev. 9-2026)
- IRS Publication 1220, for reading FIRE files
- IRS news release IR-2026-99 on the FIRE retirement
The rules are reviewed when the IRS publishes new templates, usually before each filing season.
What it is not
This is an independent tool, not an IRS product. It does not file returns and does not give tax advice. A file that passes every check here can still be rejected for reasons only the IRS can see, such as a name and TIN that do not match IRS records.
